Color Blocking: Its a Love-Hate Relationship

If you have opened a single magazine, watched a tv show, looked at a billboard, window shopped, or even just walked outside your front door you would have see one thing... color blocking! It is one of the "it" looks right now. I am going to be brutally honest. I am really struggle with ths look!

I like organization so you think the clean lines would really suit my fancy but they just don't naturally. I don't know why but my brain just doesn't naturally think in the color blocking way and I am trying to fix ths. Trying to retrain the good old brain. So I am making it a goal to branch out and force myself to put together some out of the box (for me) outfits. So I have been looking for inspiration. This us what I am looking at for my muse.

Step out of the box and do something a bit different with me. Lets Color Block!

Travel Tip: When traveling via airplane do not wear a shirt like the one shown here.

I wore this shirt on my last trip because it is super comfy but the security lady told me to never wear it again. The reason being because the shiny material in the fabric sets the security alarm off every time. So unless I want the awkward pat down moment again, I won't wear the shirt on my next trip.

November 1st Has Finally Arrived!

It is a GREAT day! It is a very important day that comes around every year. I look forward to this day, I mean it is practically a holiday to me. Schools should be shut down on November 1st in celebration of this day. So what is the big deal? It is the day that the Starbucks Red cups are out!

Yes that is my gorgeous red cup that I am currently drinking while I write this. What is so important about these cups you ask? Well let me tell you, these cups signify the fact that the holiday season is officially here!! A couple of things can happen now:

I can shamelessly start my Christmas shopping that I have been planning for months now!
I can order a peppermint mocha or gingerbread latte whenever my heart desires
I can listen to my Nsync, Michael Buble & Glee Christmas albums now and sing at the top of my lungs to "baby its cold outside."
Ms. Tumness (my dog) can now start wearing her christmas sweater when she goes outside :)

Oh Starbucks Red Cups, how I love you. Welcome holiday season, I accept you with open arms that will hold you, and squeeze you, and try not to suffocate you.

Can I get a yes & an amen from anyone else excited about the Red Cups! I know I am not alone :)

I absolutely love all of the stationary by Sweet Harvey! This is one of those great stationary finds that I would buy but then never use because I love it so much that I wouldn't want to use them because I would be afraid of running out.

Swell Studios, How I Love You!

A few weeks ago I had the great pleasure of doing a photo session with the beautiful ladies from Swell Studios and I realized that I never shared the photos! I absolutely LOVE the work they did & I can't believe that I haven't posted these photos yet. I had such a great time with Jen & Brittany who are the master minds behind Swell Studios. They make their time with you one that is fun & easy. Mix that with the fact that they are very affordable & speedy with their turn around for the product... they are a dream to work with!! I would recommend them to anyone because I had such a great experience with them. In the photo session we did photos of Barn & I and then some of just me. Lovely Lollys: Barn Inspired

For those of you who do not know my husband, I have to share with you a bit of info about him. He is infamously known for his love of wearing animal t-shirts. Unless he is at work, he will be wearing a funny animal t-shirt (thank you Urban Outfitters for selling most of these). The one he is most famous for wearing is his "man punching a bear" shirt.

So when I found this great t-shirt company on Etsy called Dark Cycle Clothing, I new I hit the jack pot! When I look at their products I instantly think of my husband. They have a whole line called "animals on bikes". As soon as I saw these shirts I thought about him & how he would probably wear every single one of these.

Hmmm.... maybe a few new t-shirts will be coming his way in the future. I'm feeling the shark one! These is just a sample of their t-shirts, there are many more t-shirts from the "animals on bikes" line and also some other great lines as well. Check out their store on Etsy for more!

The SF Adventure Continues

Our journey to the other side of the country is in full swing!
Barn is in the interview process with a couple of really cool companies right now. There all in great locations & are companies that are doing really cool things. So just waiting to see what happens with those jobs and what offers come from them.

I am currently on a selling kick! San Fran is really REALLY expensive so we are trying to gather as much money as we can. For example, a 1 bedroom apartment over there is going to average around $2,000 a month. So we need to have $4,000 cash (first & last months rent) in order to get into an apartment when we go out there. I am selling practically everything we own because we aren't hauling it all across the country and we need the $$$. So if you are looking for any furniture or home goods, just let me know because I am probably selling it! Here is a list of things I am currently trying to sell:

Thursday Trinket: October Wish List

Hello Lovelys,

I hope everyone has been having a fabulous week so far, I know I have! I don't know about you but some days I feel like I have this extra shot of adrenaline in me and I just knock out a whole To Do List of things. Well my whole week has been like that & I love it! I am riding the adrenaline train as long as possible :)

So I want to share with you a few finds that I have been holding on to. These items have been sitting in my Etsy wish list for a while know & I am waiting for a big pay check so I can buy some of these trinkets, or for some kind soul to shower me with gifts (preferably the second option :).

Where Has Scuttle Been?

The last post was on August 1st, that was over 2 months ago now. So where has Scuttle been? I just had this beautiful new blog made & then the blog posts just disappeared. Why?

The beginning of the summer Barn & I were asked a really big question that we had to come up with an even bigger answer to. We were asked to move to the beautiful city of San Francisco. An opportunity that we were NOT expecting to come up at all! Everything in Atlanta was going just as planned, of course that is always when change comes & is when it is needed (whether we notice it or not ).

We have thought about the opportunity ALOT & we decided to take a visit out to San Fran to see what we thought about the place. So this past weekend we took a trip to the east coast to scope out the land. Well, we LOVED it! Great church, beautiful people & lovely weather. The combination just made us fall in love with the place. So I am excited to say that Barn & I are in full planning mode to move to the West Coast. Our hopes are to move out there at the end of this year. I graduate in December & once I get that diploma I am free to make the move.

We are currently looking for a great job for Barn & for apartments in the area. Here in GA we are looking for a renter starting in December (know anyone??) for our townhome. We are also starting to sell things so that we don't have to haul everything across the country with us (and for the needed extra money, moving is so expensive!!) The process has begun which is crazy! We are really excited but change is never without its tears & a bit of pain. We both love our friends & family in ATL dearly & we have been so blessed to have such an amazing support system but we know that this is a move that we need to make & we are so excited.

What does this mean for Scuttle, I am not 100% sure yet. Right now I am not really 100% sure about anything other than that we are moving :) So just go with me on this journey & we shall see where we end up together. My intentions are to pick-up celebrating cuteness through blogs, treats & products that I find but I am going to also use this as a personal diary to share my journey of moving & starting my life in SF. So let me apologize ahead of time, I am sure there will be days when I am happy & full of laughs but I can't promise that there will not be any melancholy blogging days that lay ahead. I will try to keep those to a minimum but meanwhile sharing the truth with all my favorite peeps (you!).

So... that is where I am at & where I intend to take Scuttle. I hope to answer any questions about moving to San Francisco in the coming blogs because I definitely could not answer them all in one single post. If you have any questions just let me know. I appreciate all of your loyalty, love & support! I have the best blog followers & I love you all to death.

Yes I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan & I did go to the midnight showing! I have read all the books & seen all of the movies numerous times. It was sad to see it end after over a decade dedicated to the HP world, but I am so happy with how it was done.

Flights booked, hotel booked, packing list started & city guide books bought! Leaving for Hong Kong & Malaysia in 21 days & I am so excited. I have been looking into all of the fun things to do, places to see & food to eat (more importantly... not eat :)

I want these!! I love animal print items but I actually don't own any. I love these, are they crazy? Yes! are they over the top? Definitely!

The coolest journal/scrapbook in one! I bought one & I am in love. Check out the video here about the SMASH craze. It makes keep tracking of your life fun, easy & no need for perfection!

Guest Blogger: Rachel Hanna

Rachel has been one of my dearest friends for over a decade now! I love her dearly & I am so honored to have her as a guest blogger on Scuttle. She makes some of the tastiest treats you will ever have so enjoy! - Holly

When my husband Steve told me he would move to Connecticut 5 weeks early to find housing for us and begin working, I kind of got excited. Sad at first--yeah...uh, sad, that's it--but excited! I could have a last "hoorah" with my girlfriends, do a ton of things I may not be able to if we were both here still working full time jobs together, and just have a little me-time. It sounded great until the day he left. If you've been married, you may know the feeling if you've ever been separated from your spouse for more than a week: painfully sad, pathetically lost, and a feeling much like if you're thumbs had been removed for that span of time. Dramatic much? (but look how cute we are!!!)

So to counteract this thumb-removing pain-lost feeling, I have kept myself exceptionally busy! Pool parties, movies, sleepovers, SummerFest conference in PCB, staying out all night with friends, and of course, cooking. Now, there is one redemptive quality to Steve being gone: I don't feel guilty cooking all the amazing stuff his picky pallet won't allow him to enjoy. Not that this has really stopped me before, but there is a real release I have felt going out and buying random things that I've seen in recipes I've always wanted to make. Like such as, rhubarb....which brings me to the real purpose of the post, the juicy sweet center of this blog candy: I hate to love recipes.

I wish I knew all the measurements and ratios needed to make perfect baked delights, but the truth is I don't--yet. I will pretty much always “follow” a recipe, but I will never follow it correctly. I get back at recipes for being my crutch in two ways: 1) by adding to them and taking from them as I see fit, but keeping measurements as close to the directive as possible. Even in boxed cakes! I will add spices, pudding, coco, flour, egg, peanut butter, whatever I deem necessary to make it mine, and show it who's boss. 2) I will inevitably always overshoot or undershoot the measurements just a touch no matter what. For instance, I won't do just 1 cup of flour or milk; I'll do a heaping cup of flour, and then overflow the cup of milk to compensate. Or I won't measure the salt or baking powder and just eyeball the vanilla. What's up now, recipes??

The instant I saw this cake on my favorite food blog, I knew I had a challenge to make it my own. It was just so simple! Which is honestly what is so loveable about her blog, and I will undoubtedly make this cake again in it's pure form. I won't go into all the details of the changes, additions, and alterations, but if you are ever-so-curious, visit the link to her blog below.

Best Strawberry Rhubarb Summer Cake

(adapted from this Smitten Kitchen Summer Cake)

Cake:

3/4 cup enriched all purpose flour

3/4 cup organic barley flour

1 large egg

1/2 cup organic non-fat milk

3/4 cup granulated sugar (white)

1/4 cup raw sugar (turbinado)

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

6 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature

1 lb strawberries, washed, hulled & halved

1 tablespoon confectioner sugar to top cake

Crust: (what? a cake with crust? oh yes, my friends, this is real)

5 full graham crackers

<1 tablespoon of butter, melted

(I did double these amounts, but it made so much I HAD to make another pie! Tragic...)

Rhubarb compote:

1 stalk of fresh pink Rhubarb, washed & cut into 1/2 in pieces (should be about 2-2 1/2 cups of rhubarb when chopped up)

1/4 cup raw sugar (turbinado)

1/2 cup of water

Directions:

Put graham crackers into a baggies and crush with rolling pin or a similarly shaped item. Pour into small bowl & combine melted butter. Smash together with fork until moistened--and if you find it really really dry still, add a teaspoon more butter. Pour into a thin layer on the bottom of a 9.5" pie pan, or a thick layer into a 10" dish or 9" deep dish--I used 9.5

Whisk flours, baking soda, and salt together in a small bowl. In a larger bowl, beat sugars and butter together until smooth, but do not over-beat. Add milk, vanilla & egg and stir until just combined. Gradually stir in flour until thickened to dough consistency. This dough can be covered and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, but if you have that much self control, I need to meet you!

Boil water on high heat, then add sugar and stir until dissolved. Reduce heat to med/high and add rhubarb. Will take about 10-12 minutes to boil down, stirring occaisionally. Consistency should be like apple butter, soft and easy to spread. Spread this mixture ontop of the graham cracker crumbs, gently so the crust doesn't unsettle.

Pour batter over the rhubarb covered crust and spread as evenly as possible. Arrange cut strawberries on top, covering as much batter to fit them all on.

Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees, then turn the heat down to 325 degrees and sprinkle with confectioner sugar. Cooking about another 35 minutes; cake is finished when toothpick comes out clean--save for delicious gooey strawberries, which are a given.

I had 5 out of 5 tasters agree...the crust is the best part!

After a fun lunch I went home and took a nap. It was only suppose to be for a few minutes but I ended up sleeping through my alarm & sleeping for 3 hours! I missed a meeting I was suppose to be at, yikes! I was just tired I guess. The funny thing is that its 9:30, I only woke up 3 hours ago, and I am already tired again. Craziness!! Oh well. So forgive me for the short post, I'm tired :)

Day 9: Productive Saturday

Happy Saturday!!

Today has been a great saturday so far. It started out with a great morning at spin class. I am getting certified to be a spin instructor so this morning I got the wonderful opportunity to teach along side a great women who is helping me & answering my five hundred questions about spin that I have :) ! After spin I hit the farmers market & then my hubby & I went to the movies ($6 before 12:00pm!) and saw Horrible Bosses. It had bad language but it was hilarious! I definitely enjoyed it. After the movie, the day has been about of knocking things off of my to do list. Washed clothes, worked on school work, went grocery shopping, cooked, sent numerous e-mails, AND finally put all of my products up on my site!!! So go to my shop & check-out all of the new goodies that are on there!

Today started off pretty early with a trip to a local farm with my mom. We picked fresh blueberries & bought some fresh cantaloupe, watermelon & sweet potatoes. You gotta love summer & the fresh fruit & veggies. I have been cooking so much because I have had such fresh & yummy food to work with. I am loving it! Day 6 & 7

Hi Everyone!!

I have had a fun & jam packed two days. Yesterday was college from 7:30 am - 4:00 pm (only 3 days left of class this semester!). After class I got to go over to a beautiful friends house & have dinner with some of my good friends & also some of the most inspiring women I know. It was a great night & we are planning a big event that is happening on July 27th at the C3 Church in Lawrenceville. We are having a women's night that is going to be full of giveaways, mini pies, & ice cream as well as we have the funny & powerful Vicki Simpson from Australia coming to speak to us. I am so excited, it is going be a great night! You should come if you live in the Atlanta area. So I didn't get home until around 10:00, so my pictures aren't that great because I had horrible lighting, but oh well! Just squint real hard & the pictures will look normal ;)

For The Love of Puppies!

Day 5 is here. Where is day 4 you ask?

That is a great question. My 4th of July was a fun one. It started off with a Spin Century (100 miles on a spin bike in 4 hours time) at the gym I work at. It was such a blast! I was the instructor for the last hour, which consisted of all of the best disco music. During that time my husband was actually at the emergency vet with our oldest child, Ms. Tumness. She had been up all night whimpering & barely slept. She wouldn't eat, drink, go to the bathroom or walk upstairs. All she would do was drag her back legs around in a circle on the floor. After 18 hours of this we decided to take her to the vet.

We have come to learn that Tums has a bad back. She has some issues with the disks in her back, so she was put on anti-inflammatories & pain meds and we were to watch her for atleast 12 hours & make sure that she didn't move. So yesterday we camped out on the couch with our pup and made her a bed out of pillows & watched movies all afternoon & kept an eye on our patient. We kept on trying to make her eat & go to the bathroom (no luck!). So yesterday I just completely forgot about the challenge, sorry!

I am happy to report that our patient is feeling much better today :) Pain meds make everything better! Now onto today's clothes...

Day 3

but day 2 of a 3 day weekend ;)

It was such a fun day full of great church & fun friends. Started the day out with a powerful morning at church, followed by a cook-out & some swimming with some great people in the city. It was all finished off with a night cuddled up with my hubby & puppies watching movies and eating tasty treats from the UK that my mother-in-law got us. All-in-all, a fantastic day! Now... to the clothes. I actually had a few outfits today, so here is one of them :)

Today I was practically a walking ad for Forever 21, they should be paying me! I love my new little lace under-shorts, they are the best. They make shorts that my be a but too short, the perfect length. Plus they add a little bit of fun flare to am outfit.

Today was such a fun & relaxing day. It started off with a trip to the farmers market with my beautiful friend Laurel. There I bought a mint plant (mojitos!!) & I was inspired to buy more plants so I went to home depot and bought so tomato plants as well. I planted them this afternoon and I am crossing my fingers to see if I successfully keep them alive for the next few months. After my attempt at being a gardener, I spent some time with my husband and puppies and also worked on some decor projects for my living room & office (pictures soon!) All in all it was a great day! Looking forward to another fabulous day tomorrow. I love 3 day weekends!

July is Here!

Which can mean only one thing (well actually it can mean many things but just go with me). That the summer edition of 30 for 30 has arrived!! For those of you who do not know, I took on a challenge called the 30 for 30 in which you have 30 items of clothes that you mix-n-match and wear over the next 30 days. It is a challenge that helps you see just how much you can do with a few items and it really makes you appreciate your wardobe. I did a spring version of it in April and I absolutely loved it, so I am taking on the challenge for summer. This time I am making it a bit harder. Last challenge I did not include shoes in my 30 items of clothes that I could only wear, but this time I am counting them in the 30 which makes it much more challenging.

I am kicking off today with a July 4th weekend appriopriate outfit & it is about as partiotic as you will ever see my clothing get.

Off of Vacation & Back to Work!

Its been awhile... I know!!

The Indie Craft Experience (ICE) Show in Atlanta consumed my life for awhile there. It was so much fun though! Thank you SO SO MUCH to all of you loyal supporters who came out & showed some much appreciated to me & Ashleigh Flynn from Lexington Avenue who was my wonderful booth mate. We really did appreaciate all of your support. We had so much fun at the show & it was a great experience. We sold some cute product, meet some fabulous people & ate delicious popsicles & crepes :) All in all it was great fun. Here are some pictures from the show taken by the beautiful Savannah from Maiedae.

Notice all of the new product? I launched a whole bunch of new lines at the ICE show & I am working on getting all of the products up on my site as we speak! So I will share them with you soon :) Also, in case you are wondering... yes, I am still doing the journaling challenge. Happy Thursday Everyone!

I announced last week that I am participating Janel's 30 day Sketchbook Challenge. Well yesterday was the official start of it... and I completely forgot! So today I got with the program and started the challenge, I am one day behind but I will catch up quick. As part of the challenge we have to post our sketches for the day on our blogs. Let me tell you this is a very humbling experience. I am by no means an experienced sketcher! Frankly, I never sketch, which is horrible. I don't sketch because I don't like not being good at something, so if I am not that great at something I just avoid it like the plague.... hence why I never sketch. This Week Wrapped Up In A Bow: 5/27/11

Its Memorial Day weekend which means its a long weekend for most of us! I am so excited to have Monday off to spend with my friends. There are already great plans in the mix and I am excited! As the week wraps up I want to share with you some of my favorite finds, thoughts and more, that I discovered this week.

1.

I discovered the Free People blog this week and I must say that I am in love! I love their clothes, so finiding out that they had a blog to match just made my heart sing. In it they share new designers, just released FP lines, amazing photography and tutorials on how they make their shop displays, Yes Please!! I have found a new love!

I am so excited to announce that I am going to be apart of Janel's 30 day Journal Challenge. This is a challenge that takes place through the Run with Scissors blog starting June 1st. What is it? It is simply 30 days of journaling and sharing. Each morning Janel will post a prompt and her journal page in order to inspire our journal page for the day. From there we are to create our own page and then post it on our blog to share with everyone. Sounds like fun right?!? Well you should do it to! Go to Janel's page and sign-up and get more details. Tasty Treats

Hi Everyone!

I hope you all had a great Thursday. I had a jam packed day but it was a blast. I was so tired from today that I came home and crashed in front of the tv and watched Oprah's final two episodes. I am not a huge Oprah person (I have nothing against her at all), I never really watched her show to much but I felt like I need to watch her finale. Its like watching a important moment in entertainment history. One day when my kids are asking who Oprah is I'll be able to say that I remember watching her last show of 25 years. I guess I just like things that I feel like are big points in our culture that in future years I will be able to look back and say I watched it (like the royal wedding! I am keeping my $5 special edition magazine for as long as I can).

17 days until the Indie Craft Experience!

Am I ready? Of course not! I am well on my way though and my partner in crime (Ashleigh from Lexington Avenue) keeps me constantly in check. Where would we be without loyal and dependable partners and friends? We are getting so close though. I would say that I am 60% ready. With 17 days to go I can get it all done.

Happy Tuesday Everyone! I hope you all had a fabulous day, I know I did. You know why? I finished my last final this morning, woohoo!!! I have freedom for 2 weeks before I hit the ground running again at school. I am cherishing these 2 weeks of no school. I have a list of projects I want to get done during that time. It is so nice to have a To Do List that doesn't have "write a paper" on it for the first time in a long while.

I am going to kick off these two weeks with a Lovely Lollys post that is the t-shirt edition :)

The Flying Pig!

"I've learned that finishing a marathon isn't just an athletic achievement. It's a state of mind: a state of mind that says anything is possible."

So I have been waiting to post about my marathon extravaganza. Why the wait? Well you know when you have a challenging experience, how you often need time away from it in order to process it and figure out exactly what your feelings are towards it. Well that is where I was at. I needed sometime away from the marathon in order to really figure out what I felt about the whole experience because when I finished the marathon I had a whole array of emotions going on.

For those of you who do not know I love to run. It is something that I am good at and the competitive part in me loves it because I can constantly push myself. Its also a big plus that it is the one sure thing that I get to share with my parents on a regular basis. Every race I have done, my mother has done as well and my father joined the running fun not long after we started. I have done numerous 5ks, 10ks & half-marathons and I decided it was time to take on the mother of running, the marathon. I talked my mom into doing it with me & my dad willingly & excitedly was in for the adventure without any needed persuasion. So December we started our 4 months of training that lied ahead. During that time there was ice storms, surgeries, back pains, hurting arches, hectic schedules & college paper/tests, so needless to say we didn't stick to every single instruction on our training schedule, but honestly who does!

So on April 30th we hop on a plane and head out to Cincinnati, Ohio! Why Cinicinnati? Well my parents decided that if we were going to do a marathon it could very likely be the only one we ever do, so we were going to go on adventure and do a fun race. My dad choose the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati which was voted by Runners World Magazine, the funnest race in the U.S. Its called the Flying Pig because the race is based on the saying, "I will do a marathon when pigs fly!"

We go to the expo when we arrive, which is one of my most favorite things because its freebies galore and the newest workout gear all in one place. Next we head to Chipotle where we carb up with our tasty burrito bowls with the rest of racers. Off to bed at 9:30 for our big start in the morning at 5:30am.

: Flying Pig!

The alarm wakes me up and the nerves instantly hit, I start pacing the hotel room. I don't usually get nervous anymore before races but this was a different race. The marathon is such a daunting thing. Only 1% of people in the world actual do a marathon, there is a reason for that so why was I trying to be a part of that 1%? Am I mental?? Don't answer that question! So we gear up with all of our waters, GU's, hats, ipods, braces & we put Glide on every possible part of our body that could get chaffed. I shove down 2 bites of oatmeal and then we hit the street for the 6:30 start.

We step outside and the rain is already falling. Not heavy rain but just enough to make sure that our shoes were wet :) It was actually kind of nice because it kept me cool but the blisters on my toes due to the soggy shoes say otherwise. We make it just in time to hear the start gun and then we are off! Running a marathon is an individual sport, so when the gun went off that was the last I saw of both of my parents until 6 hours later. The start was great, I kept a good & steady pace & I didn't shoot off to fast. There was some amazing moments running through the city & crossing over some of the cities great bridges. My favorite moment in a race is when your on a hill and you take a second and look at the people in front of you and then behind you, it is like you are in a massive sea of people with the same goal in mind. You feel this great camaraderie with these complete strangers and you feel the magnitude of just exactly what you are doing. Its moving.

I felt great, the miles were dropping past. I was great and then mile 13 hit, that is the point were the half-marathoners finish, which was over 3/4 of the people running the race. So all of the sudden there is only 5 or 6 people around you when just a minutes ago there 30. Not only do the people leave but it hits you... I am only half-way there. Then the mental challenge begins. The big thing for me is keeping myself from being bored. Physically I was fine but my brain was just wandering because music can only keep my occupied for so long. Thankfully there was great entertainment and crowd support all along the way.

I ran strong until mile 20 hit. I don't know if you have ever seen the movie Run Fat Boy Run but I totally understand the whole scene where he hit the wall now. Mile 20 I ran into my wall. My whole body ached, it felt like the flu x7. My cardio was fine, I could have kept going but my legs just weren't agreeing. I ran until mile 21 and then I just had to walk. I came up with a system, run to the mile marker then walk to the water station and just keep that cycle going. It worked but when you have 5 miles left to go and you realize that that is around 40+ minutes... it is completely a mental game then. I am not going to lie, there was a few choice words said and a few tears shed. It really was quite the experience. Running through complete body fatigue and pain was just something that I wasn't prepared for, I never felt like that during training so I was not sure how to cope.

Finally after what felt like hours, I reached mile 25.8 and there was a big hill but at the top of the hill there was someone yelling "You can see the finish line from here!" and I had hope. I don't know where it came from but as soon as I reached the top and I saw the finish line that was straight ahead but 1/4 mile away, I started sprinting. I have no clue how I did it but I physically could not feel my body and I ran the fastest I have ever ran in my life. I was passing everyone and people were cheering for me. I was so close and the tears just started rolling down my face. I crossed the finish line and it was the most bitter-sweet moment of my life.

: Finish Line

I crossed the line and my body just wanted to collapse but I was so happy that I was done. I finished a marathon!! I was apart of that 1% and I was so proud. There was so many emotions going on in my head between happiness, pain, triumph, disappointment... I experienced it all. The first words that came out of my mouth was "I will never do that again" and then I went and got my well earned medal. I grabbed myself a banana and some peanut butter crackers (someone was handing out doughnuts... that was the last thing I possibly wanted) and found a nice spot on the concrete to collapse on and wait for my parents. Not long after both of my parents crossed the finish line with big smiles of triumph! I am so proud of them, they are my heroes! They are both 50 and they completed a marathon, they prove that age is never an excuse :) We walked back to the hotel and got hot showers and had a huge lunch!! My mom wore her heart rate monitor during the race and it said she burned over 4,000 calories, so we were ready to eat! We spent the rest of the day eating and sleeping, it was nice and deserved. For the remainder of that day and the next day we were hobbling around like we were 80, we were quite a site.

The marathon was an extremely interesting experience and now that I have had a week to process the whole thing I have decided... I am ready to go again!! I can't explain how the marathon feels but now that I have done it, I know. So I am ready to train and conquer the marathon. The Flying Pig Marathon conquered me, but now I am ready to go back and conquer it. So the wheels are set in motion for round 2 of the Hibbert-Sweetman marathon tour. January 2012 we are taking in the Disney World Marathon! So I have over half a year to train and get some great half-marathons under my belt before I take on the beast again. It was the hardest thing mentally that I have ever done but was brought up not to quit because something is hard, instead take it on head first and conquer it. So that is exactly what I am going to do.

A few quotes that my dear marathoner friend Melissa gave me that helped me through:

"If you feel bad at 10 miles, you're in trouble. If you feel bad at 20 miles, you're normal. If you don't feel bad at 26 miles, you're abnormal. " AMEN!! So true

"I tell our runners to divide the race into thirds. Run the first part with your head, the middle part with your personality, and the last part with your heart." Wow - one of the most dead-on statements

"I've learned that finishing a marathon isn't just an athletic achievement. It's a state of mind: a state of mind that says anything is possible."

The marathon opened up a whole new world to me. It showed me that the things that others, or even ourselves, deem "impossible" really aren't. Anything is possible! We all have our marathons in life, what is yours? What has conquered you but now it is time for you to conquer it? Take on your marathon and run it first with your head, then with your personality but finish it strong and running with your heart.

Thank God Its Friday!!

This has been such a long week! I am so happy that the weekend is here. I have 2 weeks left in this semester and then I will have 2 whole weeks off!!!! Can you tell that I can't wait for those two weeks to get here? I already have a creative to do list of things I want to do during those two glorious weeks of freedom. Day 20

Only ten days left to go!! Can anybody else not believe that it is almost May! I feel like it was just Christmas yesterday. What is funny is how I feel like the months are flying but at the same time I feel like this semester at college has been painfully slow. It feels like it is never ending, December can not get here soon enough (when I graduate!!). To say that I have major seniorist would be an understatement. It just been one of those semesters where there is alot of work and in a lot of classes that you aren't particularly interested in. Oh well... I am nearly done. Finals start May 5th!

Yesterday was a rather lazy day. Well actually it wasn't because I was very productive but I felt lazy because I spent most of the day in either PJ's or gym clothes. I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend, I sure did! The weather was absolutely gorgeous here in Atlanta so I spent quite a bit of time outside. On Saturday Barn & I went to the Dogwood festival with Craig & Ashleigh. Ashleigh & I wanted to go and scope out what that art festival looks like. We are trying to inspiration for our show. Our heads are spinning with ideas for setup and display. We are so amped for the Indie Craft Experience.

Sunday was another beautiful day here. We had a massive cookout with old friends and new friends. It was alot of fun and nothing says spring like kabobs and frisbees.

I kept my promise, I wore absolutely no black today. You should be very proud of me! Today I had a presentation at college so I had to dress up more than I usually would (for school). I love the shoes but needless to say they didn't last long. "Pain is Beauty!", that is the famous saying right? Well I got rid of the beauty on my feet real fast. Those are party or wedding shoes, definitely not every day shoes.

This weekend I have been a bit behind on adding my 30 For 30 posts, Sorry! So I am catching up now :)

I know that I have a small problem, I have a tendency to be attracted to all clothing items that are black. When I was shopping in LA, at one point I went to the dressing rooms in a shop and all the items I had with me were black! These two days help drill in the fact even more that I have an issue because they are pretty much all black with just a wee hint of color.

I can't believe it has already been a whole week! I am absolutely loving this challenge. I am tempted to do it more than once a year because it is so much fun. At first it terrified me, but now that my creative wheels are turning I have been inspired & pushed out of my box. Todays outfit features one of my most favorite pieces that I own at this moment. My new maxi dress. This is one of the few maxi's that length works just perfect for me (thank you anthropology!) So you will definitely be seeing this piece numerous \ times within the rest of this challenge.

Day 1

So my beautiful friend over at Love Stoned, Ashleigh Flynn, is going on a 30 day journey with me. We are taking on the 30 for 30 challenge and we are so excited!

What is the 30 for 30? You have only 30 items of clothing that you can wear for 30 days straight. It is a challenge to show off your creativity in your personal clothing style. It forces you to mix-n-match and make up brand new outfits. This challenges show that we don't really need as many pieces of clothing that we think we need.

30 For 30 Rules:

You can't wear the same exact outfit 2x's
Accessories do not count! (thank goodness!!) So shoes, tank tops, belts, hats, tights, ect... are not included in your 30 items. The rule is that if you can't wear it out alone, then its an accessory.

Happy Monday Everyone

It is a fresh start to a new week which I always love!

You know how at the beginning of every year you feel like you are given this chance to start over essentially? Its like there is this fresh new canvas in front of you & you can paint whatever you heart desires on it. It is new & clean. I love that feeling! It is like we are free to dream even bigger! Exciting Few Weeks! Stylehouse & Vacation

Shows & Sleeping!

It has been a crazy few days lately, it has been so much fun though!

First I was apart of the C3 Stylehouse at the C3 Everywoman Born to Live conference. It was amazing & had such a great turn out. I was so blessed to be apart with two lovely other artists Maiedae & Lexington Avenue. Here are some pictures from the event:

Next I left for vacation!! It has been my spring break this past week so I had a two part vacation planned. First stop was Asheville. I stayed at the beautiful Hill House Inn with my mother for a few days & enjoyed the beautiful people, food & culture of the city. We visited the Biltmore House, the art district, we also went to wine tastings, visited art stores & great coffee shops. It was so relaxing & so nice! Each night ended with bubble baths & cookies from the never ending cookie jar at the Inn. It was wonderful.

Next stop on my journey was LA. My in-laws have an apartment in LA and so I went there for the rest of my vacation. I spent time with my mother-in-law & sister-in-law, did alot of shopping (possibly to much :) & ate at so many good restaurants & coffee shop. Most importantly I had moment where I did absolutely nothing! It was wonderful. I had the best time there.

All in all I have had the best spring break, I wish it could go on for a few more day. I am on my way to the airport now & I will spend the rest of the day heading back to Atlanta. My vacation was wonderful but now it is time to get back to work. As I am checking my bags in at the airport & I am checking myself back into reality. After this I am turning my ipad back on for the first time in a while and putting my nose back into my text books.

It has been a crazy few days lately, it has been so much fun though!

First I was apart of the C3 Stylehouse at the C3 Everywoman Born to Live conference. It was amazing & had such a great turn out. I was so blessed to be apart with two lovely other artists Maiedae & Lexington Avenue. Here are some pictures from the event:

Next I left for vacation!! It has been my spring break this past week so I had a two part vacation planned. First stop was Asheville. I stayed at the beautiful Hill House Inn with my mother for a few days & enjoyed the beautiful people, food & culture of the city. We visited the Biltmore House, the art district, we also went to wine tastings, visited art stores & great coffee shops. It was so relaxing & so nice! Each night ended with bubble baths & cookies from the never ending cookie jar at the Inn. It was wonderful.

Next stop on my journey was LA. My in-laws have an apartment in LA and so I went there for the rest of my vacation. I spent time with my mother-in-law & sister-in-law, did alot of shopping (possibly to much :) & ate at so many good restaurants & coffee shop. Most importantly I had moment where I did absolutely nothing! It was wonderful. I had the best time there.

All in all I have had the best spring break, I wish it could go on for a few more day. I am on my way to the airport now & I will spend the rest of the day heading back to Atlanta. My vacation was wonderful but now it is time to get back to work. As I am checking my bags in at the airport & I am checking myself back into reality. After this I am turning my ipad back on for the first time in a while and putting my nose back into my text books.

Welcome Spring!

One of my most favorite things in life is when you finally hit that season where you can have your windows open all day and its the perfect temperature. I just love it! I am drinking my tea, cuddling with my puppies and enjoying the wonderfully crisp spring air. (I do live in "hot atlanta", so the cool breeze will not last to long! Bieber Fever?

Yes you read the title correctly but keep reading!

Do you ever have those days were you just totally check out of reality, veg out and do pretty much nothing? That was my afternoon today. Once 1:30 hit, I checked out. I had a very draining week with school, I had 4 test and 2 papers due and then you throw work on top of it, there was alot of sleepless nights and LOTS of green tea and coffee to keep me going.

So, this afternoon I gave myself permission to just relax and check out and what did that mean... Bieber Fever! Oh yes, I went and saw the Justin Bieber movie with other grown women as well (no judgment!!). After seeing the movie I am inspired to own only things that are purple, black or white. Thank you all for celebrating my birthday

I had a fabulous birthday this year! I am so happy & blessed that I had all of my favorite people in my life to share it with me.
